The New York Post reports that “two FBI agents held an hours-long meeting in Minnesota in mid-October with a concerned party who handed over a trove of documents regarding Omar’s 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a source with knowledge of the event said.”
They report that at the meeting, agents discussed concerns the Somali-born Democrat married Elmi, a British citizen rumored to be her brother, so he could obtain a green card and study in America. They say their source says that the agents would share the information with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the US Department of Education, but did not commit to opening an investigation into the lawmaker.
“if Omar did marry her brother, she could be found guilty of committing marriage fraud — a felony offense punishable with a prison sentence of up to five years and a fine of up to $250,000.The three government agencies said they would not confirm the existence of any ongoing or potential investigation. Congresswoman Omar’s office did not respond to request for comment but she has repeatedly denied the allegations — calling them “disgusting lies.”
The Washington Examiner reports:
"...last summer they “found dozens of documents that indicate discrepancies within the congresswoman's marriage statements. Omar, 38, has said she married her first husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, in 2002 before they "decided to end our relationship in our faith tradition" in 2008.According to Omar, she then married her second husband, Elmi, before getting divorced in 2011 and reconciling the same year with Hirsi. The Washington Examiner found, based on legal documents, that there is no evidence that Hirsi and Omar ever separated between 2008 and 2011, and instead continued to live together during that time period. She did, however, file for divorce from Hirsi in October last year."
