An Arizona mother is facing multiple charges for making her son walk nearly eight miles to school as punishment. The Craighead County Sheriff's Office said they received a call about a young boy walking alone along the road around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday (April 2).

Craighead County Deputy Lloyd Norman found the boy, who told him he was walking to school because he missed the bus. The boy explained that he got in trouble with his mom, 33-year-old Amber Nicole Thompson, and she sent him to bed without dinner the night before.

She told him that he would be responsible for waking up and getting himself ready for school in the morning. When he missed the bus, he decided to walk to school because he didn't want to get in trouble again.

Officer Norman took the boy home and found his mother was asleep in her bedroom. She confirmed that what her son told Norman was accurate and said, "It was not her problem" if he had to walk to school on his own.

Thompson was taken into custody and is facing charges of second-degree domestic battery and first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. She was released after posting a $50,000 bond.
