New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones will start in the team's Week 2 game against the Washington Commanders, despite his struggles in a Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Brian Daboll confirmed during his press conference on Monday (September 9).
Daboll replied, "yes," when asked if he was sticking with Jones and "nope" when questioned whether the team would alter their approach to give backup Drew Lock or third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito more practice reps this week, the New York Post reported.
Jones, 27, who made his first start since suffering a torn ACL during the 2023 season, finished Sunday's game with 186 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, on 22 of 42 passing. The former first-round pick signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Giants in March 2023, just months removed from making his only postseason appearance.
Lock, 27, signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Giants this past offseason. The former first-round pick went 1-1 as a starter for the Seattle Seahawks in 2023, throwing for 543 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions on 48 of 76 passing.
DeVito, 26, started six games for the Giants amid injuries to Jones and then-backup Tyrod Taylor in 2023. The New Jersey native threw for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions on 114 of 178 passing, while also recording 195 yards and one touchdown on 36 rushing attempts.
The Giants will face the Commanders at Northwest Stadium on Sunday (September 15).
