Homeless Man Involved In $400,000 GoFundMe Scam Arrested

The homeless man at the center of a $400,000 GoFundMe scam has been arrested in Philadelphia after he failed to show up for a mandatory court appearance in New Jersey. The Burlington County prosecutor's office said it will begin the process to get Johnny Bobbitt extradited.

Bobbitt, along with Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico, was charged with second-degree theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft by deception after the three allegedly conspired to raise money through GoFundMe for Bobbitt

Their heartwarming story went viral after Bobbitt, a homeless military veteran, gave McClure his last $20 when she ran out of gas. McClure and D'Amico set up a GoFundMe page to raise money in an effort to help Bobbitt following his selfless act of kindness.

The story turned out to be a lie, and it quickly fell apart after Bobbitt claimed the couple refused to give him the money that they had raised. McClure and D'Amico allegedly used the donated money to go on lavish vacations and buy expensive luxury items.

Bobbitt was arrested in December and released on bail. He was required to attend Narcotics Anonymous and forced to wear an electronic monitoring device.

GoFundMe said that all the money raised will be returned to the people who made donations.
